This is an old solid brass boot jack in the form of a beetle or bug. Bootjacks, sometimes known as a Boot Device or a Boot Pull, is a tool which aids in the removal of boots or shoes. This beetle form design has been around for more than a hundred and fifty years and has been repeatedly copied and reproduced. This particular example is a very old, and not a modern reproduction. It is about 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) long, weighs 1 lb 5 oz. (0.6 kg), is stamped "solid brass" on the base, and has great detail and a wonderful patina. It also has the molded bolt hole in the tail, which you do not see on the modern reproductions This boot jack will also work well as a paperweight or doorstop. If you collect antique brass, boot jacks, or just great looking old pieces, you will appreciate owning this piece.
