Kitchen Collectibles
With the start of the Industrial Revolution in the 1830s, steam powered factories began the mass-producing utilitarian household items, including a variety of kitchen gadgets. These items typically had a single purpose such as apple peelers, tomato slicers, nutmeg graters, and egg cutters, and some that are not recognizable to us today. These first apple parers were of wood; later they were made with metal wheels set in a wooden base. Patented models, made entirely of metal, were designed to do more than simply pare the apple; they could pare, core, and slice the apple in one operation. one of the first apple corer was sold in the late 1800's, and manufactured by the "Fries" company.
Vintage and antique kitchen utensils, equipment, and decor are collectible both for their aesthetic appeal and their utilitarian value. Some pieces are not only great for display, they are also useful and often of better quality than their modern counterparts. In this category we will include cookie cutters, trivets, unusual utensils, containers, cookie jars and more.
