Handmade Glass Marbles

Handmade glass marbles are among the easiest types of handmade marbles to identify. This is especially true of the latticinio swirls, solid core swirls, and sulphides. Handmade marbles typically have a rough “pontil” scar at one end, and the other end having a crimped or pinched appearance from where the glass worker cut off a lump of molten glass off a rod to make the marble. Modern hand made marbles almost never have this scar, the marble is instead polished smooth all around. Many antique marbles are not perfectly round, have lots of air bubbles, and overall they have a somewhat crude appearance.
