This is a James W. Tufts cream jug or pitcher with a nicely cut design and an almost black patina. It is Quadruple silverplate and stands four inches tall. This Boston maker manufactured silverware between 1875 and 1915. The number 1940 on the base is the design number of this piece. Based on the style and cut pattern, this piece may have been made in the 1880s or 1890s. It has a few scuffs and tiny scratches, but is in overall very good condition. The untarnished cut design and black patina give this piece superb eye appeal, and we do not recommend polishing this piece.
