This shirt button stud was used by an employee of the National Spun Silk Company Inc, of New Bedford, Massachusetts. The company was in existence from 1917 to around World War II. The stud reads Safety Committee, and features a white cross. It looks to be gold plated brass. The backmark reads "Whitehead and Hoag, Newark, NJ," a button and medal manufacturer from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It has obvious wear from use, but is undamaged.
