This pocket knife is a nice old advertising piece from a New York insurance company. It was well used, has wear, and the blade appears to have been resharpened over the years. there is also a little rust in the recesses. The age of the knife can be pinned down with certainty because it is described in a 1900 Adjuster periodical, Volume 22 issue found on Google Books: "From Eldridge G. Snow, vice-president of the Home Insurance Company, New York, comes a silver pocket knife with a merry Christmas greeting. It is a beautiful gift, and will keep the company's name in the mind of many an agent when he has a desirable new line to place.... The handsome silver handled pocket knife from the Home Insurance Company of New York is both useful and ornamental."
