This black beret with hat badge in a trunk with American soldier's uniform from World War II. It is metric size 59, which is usually defined as Large, and American hat size 7 3/8. The beret is either black or the darkest navy blue. The beret appears to be English-made, and the inside label of the cap reads "Splendid Beret ELO Impermeable" The leather hat band reads "Exposition Impermeable" in one area, and also "59." The hat or cap badge is brass, with an enameled blue and gold lozenge with three fleur-de- lis. Around the enameled centerpiece is a wreath-like design featuring two armored knight heads and four letter H's, and more fleur del lis. Our best guess is a Royal Dutch or Belgium uniform badge.
In terms of condition, the badge was repeatedly polished, and the gilt is missing from the front, and the bag has some polish residue. The hat was well used, and note the top of the hat near the center has some light colored spots. These are areas of loss of wool. It will be shipped in a box.
