This is a playbill or small Victorian advertising card for a show titled "VIM" starring the famous 19th century actor, Neil Burgess. The show was to be held at the Greenfield Opera House which we presume is the one that still exist today in Greenfield Missouri. The front features a chestnut horse and the reverse notes that tickets were available at Tilton's. The show involved horse running at full speed on a treadmill device developed by Burgess, who was also a playwright and comedian. The play ran in New York from 1883 to 1888. The Greenfield Opera House was built in 1888, and based on the fact that February 12 fell on a Tuesday, the card and show dates from 1889. It was printed on a flat finish paper stock and was obviously meant to be handed out on the street to attract customers. The back of the the card has paper on the four corners indicating that it was pulled from an old scrap book. Some of the pictures are taken with the card inside a poly sleeve.
