Antique Sewing Awl or Point or Possibly Sailors Net Tool

This is a bone handled awl-like tool, probably dating to the mid 19th century. It could be a sewing implement of some sorts, or possibly a sailor's tool for nets or sails. It has a nice mellow patina. The point and band appear to be silver plate. The handle has age cracks, but it is solidly attached. It was well used and worn. It has no markings.
