This lidded Denby Aonian majolica tobacco jar humidor has a pleasing green and brown speckle majolica glaze. It was manufactured by the Denby art pottery company and probably was made in the early decades of the 20th century. It is stamped "MADE IN ENGLAND AONIAN REG(?)" and also has a small impressed mark. There is a tiny underglaze bump and unglazed pore on the top of the lid and a small unglazed spot on the bottom of the lid, but the piece is undamaged with no chips, cracks, or repairs. It is missing a rubber gasket that fits on the underside of the lid like a canning jar seal. It is also missing the three-legged metal clamp that fits on top that would be used to press down on the lid, sealing it tight. It has nice proportions with a height of about 4 1/2 inches (11.5 cm) tall and 6 inches (15 cm) across and weighs almost 2 1/4 lbs. In the pictures, the color is different in different lighting and backgrounds. It is a bit closer to an olive green than blue green color. It could also be used as a biscuit, candy, or cookie jar. Can be shipped at parcel rate or priority rate.
