Handmade Marbles
All antique marbles were made by hand. Some modern types are handmade by glass artists. Handmade marbles are most typically made of glass, clay, porcelain or stone. The antique handmade marbles most often sold today in antique shops were made largely between the 1890s and the 1920s. Most of the clay and handmade glass marbles of this period were imported from Germany, and most probably pre-date World War I. Often sellers claim that the clay marbles were prehistoric marbles used by Native Americans, or “Civil War” era marbles, but in most cases these marbles are more recent.
