Akro Agate Transparent Corks
Transparent-based Akro Agate corkscrews are quite collectible. Clear transparent base corkscrews had an ribbon of opaque glass were sold by the company as a "Spiral". If the base was a colored transparent glass, the marble was called an "Onyx". Augers are flat corkscrews with the spiral continuing through the center of the marble, looking like an old wood drill auger. On opaque spiral near the surface are nicked named snakes. If the spiral is a broad ribbon extending into the marble (but not through the center like an auger), it is called a Ribbon Spiral. Like most corkscrews, single-twists are most common, with double, triple, or more twists being less common and bringing a higher premium.
