19th Century Police Button Scovill Backmark with Gilt Face

This button is 23 mm in diameter, has a script P and wreath device, and a brazed shank on the back. Gold gilt is worn from the raised details but remains on most of the lined background. It has a Scovill Waterbury backmark that likely dates to the 1870s or 1880s, but this backmark sometimes is claimed to go back to the Civil War era. Overall it is a quite nice looking police coat button that is at least 100 to 140 years-old.
