For sale is this lot of four postal cards sent by the Supreme Lodge of the Workmen's Benefit Association of Boston, Massachusetts. Cards like these were sent to lodge members notify them of their most recent membership assessments were due to help fund widows and families of recently deceased members. The cards are interesting in that they list the name, date of admittance (hospital or nursing home?), and the date and cause of death (cancer of the bowels, typhoid fever, dysentery, heart disease, etc) of the individual. They are from the supreme secretary (James Cutten or Varnum Mott), and all sent to an Albert Partridge of Boston, MA. They are dated from 1895 to 1904, and are in poly sleeves.
The cards were twice used. The postcard was sent to Partridge with his current dues assessment owed. Partridge would mail his payment (presumably a bank check), along with the post card. The postcard was re-mailed with a new postage stamp on the back of the card with an ink stamp indicating that the assessment was paid. The covers are of various postal cards and stamp combinations.
