Early American Pattern Glass, also called EAPG, Antique Pressed Glass, or Antique Pattern glass, refers to glass pressed in molds and manufactured in America and Canada principally between 1850 to 1910, although most found today was made after the 1880s. It was produced as everyday dinnerware and made to be both durable and attractive. Most of the early pieces were made of "flint Glass", a heavy high lead glass that rang like a bell when you tapped it, but by the 1890s, most was made of lighter Soda Glass. It came in thousands of patterns made by dozens of manufacturers. The pieces were pressed in two, three, or four-part molds. EAPG is almost always clear, and it is generally easy to distinguish from Depression Glass which is typically in colors and made from lighter and inferior quality soda glass.
