This Kings Crown or Excelsior or Thumbprint pattern piece is either a spooner or celery vase. Spooners, also called spoons, were part of sugar and creamer sets and held teaspoons. A celery vase held sticks of celery at the dinner table. This piece is in a beautiful orange-yellow or topaz color glass and stands 4 1/8 inches tall and 3 inches across the top. It is remarkably heavy and thick, and weighs more than 1 pound 4 ounces, and has the weight and feel of flint glass. The color is not like the amber of Indiana Glass Company pieces, and the flared top is more similar to Tiffin. It is in excellent condition, except it has a defect. On the outside near the top is a score mark (seen on the backside through the glass in one image). The mark grades into a slight raised line of the glass visible in reflected light. This suggests it was made by a tool while the glass was slightly molten. Whoever made it, it is not common, and will be a nice addition to a Kings Crown collection. It will be shipped shipped priority mail in a box, and the box contained in a flat-rate padded envelope to some locations.
