Vitro Agate Marble Company of Parkersburg, West Virginia operated from 1932 to 1969, when it was acquired and by the Gladding Corporation, and became Gladding-Vitro. During the 1950s, they sold marbles labeled "whities." These were solid opaque white marbles with a ribbon of color around the equator, with distinct offset cut lines. Vitro did not often use oxblood glass, and this whitie has a rare oxblood ribbon that looks surprisingly similar to Akro oxblood. While this marble has mostly a glossy wet surface, it does have some hits including a large shallow chip, so we offer it at a discounted price. The chip is most clearly seen in the photo where the oxblood band is vertical. The chip is left of the lamp reflection in the white are and hard to see.
