This is a medicine dose cap that stood atop a JOHN WYETH & BRO Vichy salts bottle. This cap dates to the early twentieth century.
Vichy salts were a mineral mixture purportedly matching the medicinal qualities of Vichy mineral water from France, and contained various minerals and effervescent carbonates. The powder was added to a glass of water and taken for hyperacidity or indigestion. The bottom of the cup reads, "This cup holds a heaping dessert spoonful." The rim of the cup has the upside down numbers 1 to 12 for hours of the day, which when placed on its companion bottle, and matched to an embossed arrow with the text, "Take next dose at."
The cap is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, damage, or staining..
