This is a very hard to find Rumford Baking Powder Company potato baking rack. It dates to about 1906 to 1909. It is made of tinned steel and is 15 1/2 inches (39 cm) long, 2 and 1/4 inches (6 cm) wide, and it has a wire handle for hanging. It is embossed "RUMFORD, THE WHOLESOME BAKING POWDER" but has no other marks, and therefore predates their 1909 patent version. It has a few light spots of rust and it was well used, with the bottom corners somewhat bent from dropping, and it has a few faint rust spots, but overall it is still in very good and all 6 tabs are intact. The potatoes were of course laid sideways on the rack, and the prongs helped cook the potatoes more quickly from the inside. This design has been rediscovered and similar items are being sold today as potato grill racks, but this is the century old original design. It will be a great addition to a kitchen collectible display or put back into use (and we guarantee it still works).
