This is an old blue and white Tichelaar Makkum delft tile. It features a landscape with buildings on a small island and sailboats in the distance. There is an unusual boom-like feature rising from the island. It is the standard size of 13cm, or about 5 1/4 inches square, has crazing, and some small chips along the edge. Use it in wall tile project, frame it, or convert it to a trivet.
Royal Tichelaar Makkum is a 360-year-old Dutch pottery company in Makkum, Holland. In 1960, the company received the designation Koninklijk (Royal), on its 300th anniversary. This tile likely pre-dates that designation, and looks to be made of the yellow sea clay used by the company.
