The San Diego Padres are a member of the National League West division. They were founded in 1969, as one of four new expansion team (Montreal Expos, now the Washington Nationals, the Kansas City Royals, and the Seattle Pilots, now the Milwaukee Brewers). The Padres have won National League pennants 1984 and 1998, but losing World Series both years. Notable Padres include Steve Garvey, Tony Gwynn, Dave Winfield, Randy Jones, and Trevor Hoffman.
