This SMC PENTAX-M 135mm F/3.5 lens is a solid, compact , and well-designed lens. It was produced between 1977 and 1986 in the K-Mount. It has a 49mm filter size, a built-in, slide-out lens hood, and weighs 275 g (10 ounces), which is light for a 135mm of the era. The diaphragm has 8 blades, and ranges from 3.5 to 32. The super multi-coated optics consists of 5 elements in 5 groups, has a long throw, and has a minimum focus distance is somewhat less than 1.5m (5 ft). It is a telephoto lens, and the field of view (diagonal / horizontal) is 12 ° / 10 °on APS-C is , and 18 ° / 15 ° on full frame. On lens review sites, this lens gets high marks for image quality, bokeh, sharpness, and handling whether it is used on a film camera or adapted to digital cameras. Like most lenses of the era, there is chromatic aberration, but even in this category, it grades better than most.

This example comes with the original, but well-worn, leatherette case (embossed with the lens info), generic front and rear caps, and a HOYA skylight filter. The Hoya filter has a couple of small dings on the end, but did its job protecting the lens. The lens itself is in excellent condition, with no scratches, fungus, or haze. There are few specs of dust inside. The focus is smooth, and the aperture is clean, oil free, and snappy. Tested and everything works great. Wide open it has a narrow depth of field with a creamy background blur.
