This sale is for 8mm home movie film on a 5-inch film reel in an steel canister. The label on the canister reads Film Buchse and in pencil " Garmisch Oberammergau Heidelberg" and possibly "4.50"." The film has both black and white and color segments spliced together. The film probably spans 1949 to 1950 . Scenes include views from gondolas, ski lifts, skiing, a slalom ski competition (appears amateur), lots of mountains, train view, brief footage of Garmisch Military post entrance. There are some nice B&W street scenes of Garmisch village with people in Bavarian garb, and man cutting wood, people on the street. The Heidelberg village appears mostly from an approaching train footage an more limited than the other sites.

The film is average home movie quality in terms of subjects and framing, and includes occasional helpful views of place signs. Some scenes are quite brief. The leader is missing and some of the film needs cleaning. One or two of the old splices broke during playback and was imperfectly taped back together. Another splice was poorly done and the film had to be advanced around it. Needs some cleaning. The images shown here were screen captures from a video recorded of the film from a poorly focused projector on a white board, so the film quality is much better than the video grabs shown here. A five-inch reel can hold 200 feet, or about 12 to 14 minutes of play time. Old 8 mm movies can now be scanned digitally frame by frame at a reasonable cost and excellent image quality, so this reel can provide some nice 1950's stock movie footage of these places and subject matters.
