A put and take spinner or teetotum is a game or gambling device similar to a child's top, with six or eight sides typically. Spinners like this were usually sold under name like Ante-Up or Put and Take. Players enter a chip or coin into a pot then take turns with the spinner. Each side is marked giving directions for play. For small spinners like this, eight sides are marked as follows: AP, P1, P2, P3, TA, T1, T2, T3. The markings indicate: AP- All Put, or everyone puts one ante into the pot. P1 directs the player to put or will ante one into the pot, T1 directs the player take one into the pot, and so on.

This is a small brass spinner about an inch and an eight tall, and probably dates to the 1930's or 1940's. It spins well and is in great condition.
