Key return if lost fob one dollar reward New York 220 Broadway

This is an old keychain return if lost tag or fob. The obverse reads "For the prompt return of these keys if lost one dollar reward or drop in any letter box." On the back it reads "New York Registry Company will identify owner by Number 378199 Main Office 220 Broadway New York." This fob, made of nickel, was used for many years judging by the wear. It likely dates to the early or mid-twentieth century. Most major cities had a service like this where companies or individuals would pay to have their identity registered with the company by a number to protect losses from theft if the actual address of the owner were on the keys. If the keys were dropped in a mailbox, the registry would receive the keys, Postage Due. Will be shipped in an envelope if first class mail letter is selected for shipping.
